What to do if your seat post is creaking

An initial creaking sound is not uncommon with carbon seat posts. In most cases, however, the noises can be quickly fixed with a little carbon paste.

That might be the reason

Both the seat post and the frame are made of carbon. Its material properties can cause surface tension, which in turn can lead to annoying creaking or cracking noises. A little carbon paste usually does the trick. Applying it to the seat post increases the contact area, thereby reducing surface tension.

In addition, particles in the carbon paste increase friction resistance. This usually allows the torque to be reduced slightly.

Here's how to do it

First, loosen the screw on the seat clamp using a suitable hex wrench. Then carefully remove the seat post from the frame and clean it thoroughly. Next, apply some carbon paste to the lower third of the seat post. Insert it back into the seat tube and adjust it to your desired height. Finally, tighten the screw on the seat clamp to the specified torque.
