The GPSMAP® 64s is a robust, fully-featured navigation device. A high-sensitivity GPS and GLONASS receiver with quad helix antenna quickly acquires satellites and offers an excellent signal. The internal memory of 4 GB offers enough space for tracks and caches, the microSD card slot can be used for additional map material. Another advantage is the dual battery system that has been optimised for outdoor activities. You can even integrate ANT+ sensors (speed not possible via ANT+) to also display e.g. heart rate (optional heart rate chest strap, item no. 2098568) or cadence or exchange data between ANT+ compatible GPS devices.
Keep Your Fix
With its quad helix antenna and high-sensitivity GPS and GLONASS receiver, GPSMAP 64s locates your position quickly and precisely and maintains its location even in heavy cover and deep canyons. The advantage is clear — whether you’re in deep woods or just near tall buildings and trees, you can count on GPSMAP 64s to help you find your way when you need it the most.
Get your position
The GPSMAP 64s has a built-in 3-axis tilt-compensated electronic compass, which shows your direction even when you’re standing still, without holding it level. Its barometric altimeter tracks changes in air pressure to pinpoint your altitude and you can even use it to plot barometric pressure over time, which can help you keep an eye on changing weather conditions.
Share your great outdoor experiences live, just connect your GPSMap 64s to your Bluetooth Smart/Low Energy compatible smartphone* and share your position through Live Tracking and Garmin Connect with family and friends. Smart Notification allows you to wirelessly receive email, texts and alerts from your smartphone. Stay fully connected while you keep your precious smartphone stored safely in your backpack.
*Live tracking via Garmin Connect Mobile app (from iPhone® 4s; Android® with Bluetooth® LE) and smart notification with iPhone® 4s or later versions
A reliable outdoor pro
The GPSMAP 64s is optimised for outdoor activities. That’s why high importance has been placed on the reliability of the GPS device’s features even in tough and adverse conditions. The high-contrast 2,6” colour display contributes to the high level of user friendliness. Whatever the conditions, you can always read the information displayed easily – even in sunlight.
The GPSMAP 64s is operated with buttons. So you can even use it when you are wearing gloves or when it’s getting bumpy, cold or wet outside. Another practical feature is the dual battery system that gives you the choice: You can either use the battery pack (item no. 2104708) which can be charged while inside the device or standard AA batteries. When the GPSMAP 64s is fully charged, it offers a battery life of 16 hours which lets you a time reserve for day trips – in case of unexpected delays.
Explore the terrain
The GPSMAP 64s stands out for its comprehensive navigation features. Based on waypoints, tracks and routes you can explore your own trails and thanks to TracBack, you will always get back home safe. Used with the optional Garmin TOPO PRO maps, the GPSMAP 64s shows you individual routes optimised for your leisure activities with the ActiveRouting feature. Your Garmin shows you the ideal route to go hiking, mountain climbing or mountain biking. Simply enter your activity and the desired route immediately pops up. This makes the life of GPS beginners and GPS old hands easier.
Garmin offers a huge range of detailed topographic, sea and road maps allowing you to extend the map material of the GPSMAP 64s with ease. Use the internal memory of 4 GB or the microSD card slot of the device. GPSMAP 64s also supports BirdsEye™ Select cards which lets you load satellite images onto your device and integrate them with your maps. Moreover, the GPSMAP 64s is compatible with Garmin Custom Maps, a map format to transform paper or electronic maps into downloadable maps that you can transfer to your device. The pre-installed global basic map is a non-routable overview map that only provides approximate orientation. You can also insert microSD cards with road map material or topographic map material by Garmin (e.g. Topo Germany V7 Pro, item no. 2130989) and you can hit the trail straight away. Maps on DVDs can be loaded onto a microSD memory card or the internal memory of the device via Garmin MapInstall (free download at garmin.com) or integrated into the downloadable Garmin Base Camp for display and route planning (free download at garmin.com, suitable for PC and Mac*). Via Garmin Base Camp you can update already existing maps and your GPSMAP64s, buy new maps and use numerous additional functions such as the display of already completed routes, different map displays (2D or 3D) or the creation and management of POIs. You can also update the maps or the device directly via the free programme Garmin Express (garmin.com). The updates of the Garmin map material entail costs. The City Navigator can be updated via a download, for the Garmin Topo maps you can buy update DVDs for the respective country. You can also buy update packages for the City Navigator in the Garmin shop Lifetime. The DVD road maps of the City Navigator can be updated for free once within 30 days after the activation. Pre-installed Garmin maps on the memory card cannot be updated. Garmin Adventures include recorded activities which you can share, use, download and change via Base Camp. Moreover, you have the possibility to load free OSM maps (e.g. openstreetmap.org) in img format onto a microSD card and use them for your device (the OSM map has to be suitable for routing to allow for navigation). Simply create a new folder called “Garmin” on the memory card and put the .img file into it. In this way, the Garmin device will be able to display the map. You can also load and use several OSM maps at the same time.
