Venturi is a high-performance laminate exclusively from Schöffel. With Venturi, Schöffel managed to use a membrane that meets highest demands. Naturally waterproof, windproof and breathable. Thanks to the combination of the Venturi membrane with different outer material qualities, optimal properties for several types of use are achieved. A special characteristic of the Venturi material is its excellent touch providing a soft feeling on the skin. As required, Venturi can either be used as a 2-layer or as a 3-layer laminate. The philosophy of Schöffel is to apply a high standard to the assessment of the technical features of Venturi products. This is permanently controlled by regular functional and quality tests.
Why is Venturi water- and windproof?
Venturi is an impervious membrane. It has no openings or pores through which wind or water can penetrate. Venturi is hydrophilic, that is to say water-friendly. Hydrophilic fibres absorb moisture. Combined with hydrophobic or water-repellent fibres, an excellent moisture management is achieved. With a water column of 10.000 mm, Schöffel significantly exceeds the DIN standard for waterproofness of 1.300 mm. Moreover, all seams are welded with a special tape and all zips are sealed.
Why is Venturi breathable?
The structure of Venturi shows coarse and fine molecule combinations. The water vapour can escape through the coarse molecular structure, provided that a water vapour gradient exists, i.e. the water vapour molecule wanders from the place of greater concentration to where the concentration is lower. A second requirement is a temperature gradient, i.e. the outer temperature must be lower than the temperature in the garment. This water vapour transport is known as breathability.
